Historical fiction is a blend of actual incidents and real individuals with fictional accounts of those events and made-up characters. It gives fiction a more realistic quality. It serves to remind us of the past and lets our imaginations fill in any unknowns. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for the real characters mentioned in my book and I have tried to portray them as they actually were and how they might have acted in different situations. The end of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century were an exciting time both in Mexico and in the United States. In The Road to Parral I have tried to both educate and entertain the reader through the lives of two young Mexicans growing up in the political turmoil of Mexico around the turn of the century, the hardships of riding with a band of outlaws and the reasons for the choices they made.
