"You shouldn't do this," Mandy said firmly.
"I second that. This is a bit more than what he told us about in the living room yesterday."
Eric eyed the men in white lab coats working on various chemicals in the middle of the big university gym. There was a cloud of smoke. Eric twitched.
"I've made my decision. I have to go through with this. Mike selected me for a reason."
Mandy stroked his face and smiled her beautiful smile at him.
"You've changed a lot."
He gave her an uncertain look.
"Really?"
She kissed him on the cheek.
"Really."
They called his name then. They walked across the polished floor through the large crowd of people to the little center of the gym.
"This challenge is a drinking contest," Cody yelled through a megaphone.
The crowd cheered.
"The contestants will drink until they can no longer continue or they vomit. We have a special team on hand for such an occasion."
He pointed at some frat mates dressed up in plastic rain coats with buckets.
Cody turned to the waiting lab team. Joey noticed that Schizo was among them fiddling with some chemicals. He looked confident, even though his coat was stained various colors. It was a scary thing: Schizo was known for two things: drugs and being the best damn chemist in the university, which was probably why he never got done for the drugs part.
Joey sat down at the table. The big man, Jack, glared at him.
"I'm gonna [Censored] you up," he whispered.
Joey had no doubt. Jack had nearly broke his nose when he pledged into the frat during the punch competition. He could clean the floor with Joey if he wanted to.
Boobs looked over and gave him the thumbs up. They were getting along better these days. Still, Boobs was probably the one to watch in this fight - he could drink anyone under the table.
The first round of drinks was bought over by a few sexy girls in bunny rabbits costumes. The greenish looking liquid was in a small cocktail glass. It smelled a little rank, but probably wouldn't taste so bad, or at least Joey hoped.
It went down like razor wire heated to near melting point. Joey swooned and the others did too. Cody came over as he lay his head on the table and lifted his arm.
"Still alive!"
The crowd cheered. Joey felt like he was going to die. His throat burned and his insides screamed. Likely this was not poisonous (the lab team regular ran crazy cocktail hours for the frat and no one had ever died), but it burned. It burned so much he wanted to die.
He knew he was failing. Guys like Boobs were hard as stone when it came to alcohol (Joey was a lightweight by anyone's standards). He had to keep on. This was too important, but it hurt. How could he keep on like this?
