The Lionhearted — Harriet May Savitz

Two years after the motorcycle accident which left Rennie in a whleechair for the rest of her life, she succeeds in getting admitted to Ridge High School. But, in addition to having to adjust to being back in the mainstream, Rennie is striving to be acepted by others -- despite her disability.

At school, Rennie meets new friends. Bess, always on the outer fringe, overweight and depressed, longs to have the willpower and courage that Rennie possesses. And Lee, torn between his mother's dream for his future and his own hopes and plans, faces new conflicts when he finds himself caring for Rennie.

As these three young people learn to deal with their problems by helping each other, they each mature toward goals they could only dream of before.
