Mexico -- land of enchantment, adventure, romance. For lovely young Thalia Templeton, Mexico was also the home of her maternal relatives. Thalia's mother had died giving birth to her, and the baby was sent to Chicago with an aunt, Millicent. But, until her father's death, the child had returned each year to stay at the old Casa Caro with her uncle, Juan Cabrero. After Thalia grew despondent over a broken love affair, Millicent had the idea of sending the girl to the land she had loved so well. Then change of scene did her good.

Sending for Millicent, Thalia and her aunt hit upon a plan -- to open the Casa to long-term guests, and to use their rent money to restore the hacienda to its former glory. It was a fine idea, except…Except for the guests and their secrets. Sabrina Hanna, thrice a widow, was a childlike, coy woman whose husbands had died mysteriously. Damon Brandon, a British -- educated American archaeologist, was secretive, brooding. Only Mike Harvey, a clean-cut army veteran, seemed guileless. And of the “show folks”, as Millicent called the members of the television crew who stayed at the casa, they excepted nothing but trouble.

And that was what they got.
