Marcia Tempest was visiting her father's grave in a Dorset village when she met Bill Trenton, a young Canadian, who was searching for the tombstone of an ancestor. Marcia's plans to train herself for a job were shattered when she accepted Bill's offer of marriage and a home along the great Mackenzie River. In Canada, however, tragedy stepped in, and Marcia found herself facing a future that was terrible to contemplate.
