Sweet Alice — Rebecca Marsh

Alice Borden was just an average, happy New York girl living an average, happy life when the sudden illness of her mother changed the whole course of her existence. At the suggestion of the family doctor, Alice took her mother south to St. Petersburgh. There, a new job and new friends awaited her. Among the latter were Cliff Zwerlin, the writer for whom she worked; Dan Wyatt, whose father was independently wealthy but who realized he had her own way to make in the world; and Ewell Ullvane, a retired businessman.

The future looked rosy and pleasantly eventful. Whereupon Ralph Jones, whom Alice had known at home, arrived to press his own suit. And Alice's new friends realized that they had some worthy competition for her heart.
