Life is not easy for Nurse Lillian Barrett: her father has recently died in a road accident, which has left her mother in a wheelchair, perhaps for ever -- and her youngest brother seems to be keeping unfortunate company. It's quite a load to bear, but Lillian loves her job at St. Catherine's hospital, and can always find peace of mind in Lake Ward, whose patients all adore her. That is, until the day the fatherly Senior Consultant goes on holiday and is replaced by a French doctor who is far from fatherly. Andre Depre shatters Lillian's peace of mind, and the beautiful, sophisticated Ward Sister who had designs on him doesn't help much either.
