Her mother's unreasonable dependence and demands drove Nurse Lorina Rodgers to accept an unusual assignment. Old Benjamin Johnson, a difficult patient with whom Lorina had had success, was convinced that she would be the ideal person to handle the nursing station on the island he owned. The old man needed efficient medical care for himself and forthe islanders who worked for him. But Lorina suspected that Old Jamin, as he was known to all, was also looking to play Cupid for his handsome, blond, and equally difficult grandson, Ben.

Lorina wondered if she were crazy leaving the secure, exciting mainland hospital to become the only nurse at the isolated fishing village. But the island's exotic beauty sounded appealing. And here was a chance to make the break from home. With the help and support of Dr. Mac, she set out for her new home and new job...and unknowingly opened the door to love as well.
