It was with misgivings that Delia Norcoss handed in her resignation as nurse-teacher at a junior high school in Canadaigua. Her long-hoped for career was in shambles; she hadn't been able to last even one year with the unruly students. Regretfully, Delia left before the term was up. She would fill in her time working in her aunt's antique store, the Victorian Shop. If only Vic were around to talk to.

But when her brother, Vic, did arrive, it was with Mitch Hartford in tow. Mitch! Delia had long ago decided that she could never marry a trucker, a man who was never around when you needed him. Nor could she ask Mitch to give up the job he loved. But just the sound of his voice aroused feelings Delia thought she had conquered.

While working in the relative calm of the antique store, Delia had time to sort out her feelings. She was good at interior decorating -- perhaps she would make that her career. But something inside rebelled. It was not easy to cast away the years of hope and work that had gone into her combined nursing and teaching career.

When Mitch is injured in an accident, Delia realized that she must face the truth -- she loved him. But how could she tell him? The lovely Hillary Dawn, a wealthy young woman for whom Delia had done some decorating , was taking up all his time, helping him through his painful convalescence. And Mitch didn't seem to need Delia at all.
