Jana Christy had come to Santa Barbara to prove that she was not afraid to live alone, that she could erase her memory the awful night in her home town of San Francisco when she had been abducted and stuffed into the trunk of a car.

She chose private-duty nursing so that she could rest between cases. And she did not tell anyone in Santa Barbara of her nightmarish experience -- not even handsome Gig Scott, who was doing research at the University laboratory. It seemed to Jana that Gig had time for her only when it did not interfere with his precious “projects.”

When a call came from the Registry offering Jana a nursing position on location with Coronado Pictures -- Kevin McGraw was shooting a picture at an old Spanish mission in the California mountains -- Jana hesitated only briefly before accepting. It would be wonderful living with other people for five weeks -- and her absence might give Gig Scott the jolt he needed.

But Jana was in for a jolt. For when the very attractive Kevin McGraw began to make love to her in a play-acting way, she went along with the game. It was only make-believe, after all, and on her part, too -- or was it?
