The small door stuck for a moment and he pulled harder on it. It opened with a bang as he managed to force the door outward. Inside on the bottom shelf sat what he had come here for.

A belt of a dozen or so smallish throwing knives and a curved sword he had bought from an elf who had bought it from a small smith in the furthest reaches of their lands sat on the shelf. He picked these up and strapped on the two items.

The sword sat oddly across his back and left shoulder. At one time they had been so familiar that he had often forgotten he was wearing them. Now so much time had passed by that the feel of the hilt on the soft skin of his hand felt somehow harsh.

He picked up the small cross bow and quaver from the second shelf. These were more recent items that he had bought just before he left the military. They hadn't seen much use in his time in the army, but he had found them to be quite useful.

He strapped these to his side and picked up the final small item that he had left on the top shelf. It was a note that his wife had given him when he first entered the military. It was short and to the point: Come home to me. I love you. He had come home and they had lived a good life together.

He checked his weapons and made sure that everything was in its proper place. His wife had been loving and caring all of her life and hadn't deserved the treatment she had received. John knew there was a debt that needed to be paid for that. He would not let the death of his wife go unavenged and he would not let others suffer in the same way he was suffering now.

A tear rolled down his face as he passed by the portrait of him and his wife. He walked down the hallway and left the building through the kitchen. No one noticed that he was gone and probably wouldn't until Thomas calmed down enough for them to leave his side.

He ran quickly into the woods and disappeared from view. Soon he would find who did this and then there would be a debt to discuss. One that the other party would not walk away alive from.
