Katie's Cakes — Helen Spears

Katie Weston thinks that her appearance is more likely to incite pity than romance. She feels unkempt, haggard, and exhausted from working half the night to catch up on orders for her spectacular party cakes.

When Lieutenant Commander Camden Carter insists that she take one more order, for his Admiral's retirement party cake, Katie relents...only after he promises to find her an assistant.

Katie doesn't have time for romance, although she can't deny her surge of attraction toward the handsome naval officer. It is only when she makes herself presentable to deliver the Admiral's cake that Camden shows a spark of interest in return. He unexpectedly asks her to be his date for the Admiral's party.

Their romance develops until one fateful night when Katie learns just why Camden was available and why she may lose him to the formidable competition she didn't know existed.
