In this sequel to The Ledge, it is now five years after the death of Roland Heinz and his adopted family -Molly, Melanie, and Sonia Costello- have settled into life in Pipe, Wisconsin. But not everything is peaceful and serene at Ghost Farm. Molly's writer's block may be a symptom of her inability to fill Roland's rather larger literary shoes and she begins to catch a flicker of madness in her own eye. When the Ghost Farm owl dies she meets Owen Palmer, a local veterinarian, who is about to take a stroll into his own terrifying future. The two people are attracted to each other, but it seems fate will never allow them to pursue their feelings. As this strange love story unfolds we catch up with a few old friends from The Ledge and meet some new characters, including Bim Stouffer, the iconic 'garage-sitter'.

Far away in California, Roland's ex-wife Karin, now widowed decides, with the help of her sister-in-law Leah, to try to repair her relationship with her bitter sister, Meg Bollander. They embark on a road trip to Wisconsin to release a few family skeletons from their long-locked closets. Meg still lives above Ghost Farm where she continues to loath Roland, but with a new outlet for her emotions. All the while, the spirit of Roland Heinz and his amazing books continue to dominate the small Wisconsin community he left behind bequeathing it much more than meets the eyes of his faithful readers.

Jersey Flats takes on the complexity of love in Wisconsin's Holyland, which springs from the ground like wildflowers after the long northern winter. Haunting each page is something hidden beneath the boulders of a mystical kame at Jersey Flats in the gorgeous Kettle Moraine region where the spirit of Roland Heinz still lurks.

Richard Curtis Hauschild is a novelist and screenwriter. Although born and raised in Illinois, he now resides and writes from north of the Cheddar Curtain in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Jersey Flats, a sequel to his previous novel, The Ledge, is Richard's second book set in the Fond du Lac area and part two of what will be a Wisconsin trilogy. Holylands, his next novel will complete the three-book love letter to his adopted homeland.
