Future History, Volume 1: The Winter Chronicles, Part 1: Incipience. Retreat Retreat commanded Paul. The group ran, ran, and ran some more. They ran until they vomited, and then they ran some more. The sound of battle finally started to fade behind them, but it was not over yet. The big battle for Berlin was ahead of them. They took a short rest and continued to march as fast as they could. It took them several days to get far enough from the fighting that they could relax and slow down a bit before the next battle began. The fighting lasted several months, and it seemed to be a lost cause. But, they did their best to defend Germany against the invading forces. Finally, they met up with the German ninth army. Paul and Goring reported to the commanding officer General Busse details of the battle, the mine field and everything they had been through. Paul informed General Busse that he had important information about the Russian's plans to invade Berlin, but that it was a moot point now. He was disappointed that he had not gotten the information earlier, but thanked Paul for being a patriot. The German ninth army had set up three defense lines near the river Oder, waiting for the Russian army to attempt a crossing. Crap, said Paul to himself, remembering his history, this is the battle of Seelow Heights.
