For many long and empty years, the milieu of Tracy Winslow, R.N., had been the white-painted, echoing wards and corridors of a large city hospital; her life one of deadly, spirit-crushing, Puritanical routine. Morris had changed all that, had placed a rosy veil over the world. And after his accidental death, Tracy could not look at a doctor in a white coat without seeing him.

So she fled from the ghosts, first as a go-go girl in a discotheque, then by a train to Australia where Morris had friends who she hoped might first relight the memories and then extinguish them forever. Unfortunately, their memories of Morris did not jibe with hers, and to escape a disillusion which threatened to be even more destructive than her grief had been, Tracy turned once more to nursing, on the far side of the world.
