Hearts of the Vendee
Hortense Claviere had to get home to her cousin's chateau in the Vendée. Her father's last wish, before being guillotined, was that she should take the fortune in jewels that he had amassed to support the Royalist cause against the Republicans.
In doing so, Hortense fell in with Raoul Duchambray, the black sheep of Ramboulard, the estate which marched with Claviere. Unknown to her, Raoul had a special purpose in returning to Ramboulard, one not to his liking, and one which would cause anguish for himself and Hortense. His integrity in question, there seemed no way out...
