Fairy Tales and the word "true" seldom go together. They do now. B.D. Knight dives into what he calls fairy tale mania.

Original Grimm Brother fairy tales are featured since the Grimm Brothers play a big part in the current fairy tale mania. Knight discusses other tales as well.

The book is humorously written. One of the chapters is entitled Did Cavemen Tell Fairy Tales?. Does that tell you anything?

While Knight talks about the origin of fairy tales he obviously doesn't want to make this a history book per se. Here is one of his imaginary conversations between Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm that gives you an idea what you can look forward to.

“What do you want to do today, Jacob?”

“I don't know, Wilhelm. What do you want to do today?”
(If you didn't watch Jungle Book you probably figure I'm off my rocker.)

“I asked you first,” said Wilhelm as he shifted in his chair.

“Let's write a book of tales.”

Wilhelm rubbed his chin.
“That sounds like fun. How many stories should we begin with?”

“I'm thinking about eight six.”

“Eighty six? That will take forever.”

Wilhelm pondered the response and then nodded.
“You're right. I have a better idea. Instead of us writing all the tales let's collect stories and maybe modify a few of them and see what happens.”

Jacob fist pumped. (How do you know they didn't do that back then?”
“I like it. Let's do it.”

It's obvious Rapunzel is one of Knight's favorite stories. He gives a summary of the original story (in his style), then summarizes the Fractured Fairy Tales version from the Rocky & Bullwinkle show and finally ends with a summary of Disney's Tangled.

Knight includes this warning at the front of the book.

"Warning! This book is written for the young adult audience but it can also be read and enjoyed by immature adults. Serious adults should avoid reading it."
