Cherry Ames, Camp Nurse — Helen Wells

Cherry Ames accepts one of the most interesting jobs of her nursing career when she accepts an assignment at Camp Blue Water, nestled close by a Pennsylvania mountain lake.
Whether it is helping twelve-year-old Katy to become a welcome member of the Mountaineers' cabin or mending the feud between irrepressible Sue and Katy, Cherry faces each new challenge with zest and imagination. Indeed, the campers, down to the smallest Midget, all but adopt Cherry, including her in every project from amateur theatricals, to adventurous overnight hikes.
But Cherry senses that behind the casual fun of the summer camp something is wrong, and somehow it involves the young tow-headed stranger and eccentric photographer Paul Purdy. A robbery, a rubber mask, the ransacking of Purdy's barn - bit by bit Cherry gathers together all the pieces of the puzzle but one. With the help of Reed Champion, Camp Thunder Cliff's handsome head counsellor, Cherry determines to find it. The trail leads them across the lake to Tall Man's Island, where Cherry finally discovers the key to a baffling mystery.
