Girl on the Run...

"Some day I'm going to leave this hick town and find a man rich enough to appreciate me!" And Jenny Brown had left, never heard of again, until the night, three years later, her sister Laura came home and found her there. But, it was a changed Jenny, still lovely, but so thin and pale and nervous. A frightened Jenny... but what, of whom? Though equally beautiful, Laura Brown and her sister Jenny were cut from different cloth. Jenny, the younger, had left Tallisman Lake years ago for the bright lights and a theatrical career, while Laura had been content to stay behind. She had the cottage at the lake, the small private island where she could find quiet and solitude and her popular swimming classes. No important emotional involvements, true -- but then, no problems.

Then, into Laura's life, came Burny, a blind guitarist, and his pianist, Gil Bricker. From the first, Laura was caught, by sympathy for the first, by love for the second, though Gil, blaming himself for Burny's affliction, was too guilt ridden, to accept her for himself.

It was the same day that Laura met Burny and Gil that Jenny returned -- a worldly-wise Jenny who now called herself Jan, a confused Jenny who had known and loved both Burny and Gil, a frightened Jenny who was fleeing the manical vengeance of her jilted fiancé, Harry Warrigal. For it was Harry Warrigal, in his jealous love for her, who had arranged the beating, that cost Burny his sight.

Trapped by these complex entanglements not of her own making, Laura could only hope that Harry Warrigal had not followed Jenny to Tallisman Lake -- and that one day she and Gil would somehow be free to love each other.
