First Ron and now Dennis...what was the matter with her, Beth wondered? What made her fall in love with a man, and then send him awaY/

Love Remembered...

Beth Hale hated to leave Boston and the handsome Dennis Mullaney with who she had fallen in love. Unhappily, Beth knew she had to return to Milliston. For one thing, her father was desperately ill and needed her there. And for another, Beth had discovered that Dennis was already married.

Beth had not been in Milliston for more than two days when she met Ron Mitchell, the man she had once promised to marry. “I am a changed man, Ron told her, “but one thing hasn't changed. I still love you.”

But though Beth still felt a powerful attraction t Ron, she wondered if he had conquered his problem -- the irresponsibility that had caused their break-up. And she wondered, too, if she could ever forget Dennis…

Just Friends…?

There was silence between them, broken only by the melancholy music of the restaurant piano, Ron stared at her unhappily.

“Why did we have to have that stupid row?” he asked suddenly.

Beth attempted a laugh. “Is that important now? It happened years ago.”

“I think it is,” he said. And then, more quietly, “I know it is. I was a fool…”

“Well, we're still good friends,” Beth said quickly. “That's something, isn't it?”

He shook his head. “It's not enough for me.”
