Ashmore Estates: The Myth and the Legend — Michael Kleen

Recently featured in an episode of Ghost Adventures, Ashmore Estates has long fascinated visitors to east central Illinois. Born as the almshouse on the old Coles County poor farm, the building has since grown up to inspire the curious to travel from all over Illinois to see what hides behind its walls. In the words of one reporter and former student at nearby Eastern Illinois University, “for years, teenagers and college students alike have journeyed to this decrepit tower of terror.” Today, the building is a popular haunted house and has attracted the attention of filmmakers and television shows alike.
