It's a traditional mystery. The difference is that one of the characters in this first book is The Voice, a demonic presence that is hounding Father McAllister and making life difficult, especially after the murder. There are elements of humor, especially in the relationship between Father McAllister and his new boss, Mother Margaret. Readers won't have to worry about excessive violence or swearing. And there won't be any "pea soup" moments.

Priests are on the front line. By virtue of their calling, they see and hear more more about the dark side of human nature than their parishioners would guess. They are very similar to the police in that respect. That goes for other religious leaders as well, which is why there are so many mysteries involving priests, rabbis and Protestant ministers. They are in the perfect position to get pulled into a murder investigation.
