A Glass Darkly
As the years slide by, my political will weakens and all I'm left with are dead faces staring back at me from the shadows… A tragic accident shatters the lives of all involved. An Oxford student goes missing from his grandparents' cottage. A recently released prisoner tries to starve himself to death. A police officer finds himself on an unalterable path. Some wounds never heal. They only fester. In the summer of 2002 the grandson of an ex-government minister goes missing. Under pressure from the influential grandfather, detectives Jack Sheridan and Col Baker are assigned the case. At first they treat the investigation with caution, but soon find themselves embroiled in the games of a madman. A police officer in Northern Ireland discovers a man starving to death in the woods. The only thing to identify him by is an old Provisional IRA tattoo. Little does the policeman know, however, that this man may hold the key to an ancient wound that's been smoldering inside him for decades. After turning up out of the blue, Jack's cousin comes to stay. It's nice to have the man at home, as his charming presence brings a level of comfort to Jack's erratic wife and rebellious daughter. But is the cousin hiding a dark secret that may expose them to terrible danger? With both his home life and work life in turmoil, Jack Sheridan has to track down a man hell-bent on bringing the horrors of the past to the surface of the present. To show the world through a glass darkly.
