Description
An anonymous warning to get out of town or else was Dolores Saunders' “welcome” to Brookville, a warning the pretty nurse ignored, until a wild ride down the mountain convinced her someone really was determined to kill her.

Target Of Hate...

Two years of dating one man and getting nowhere had helped persuade Dolores Saunders to take the job as Head Supervisor of Brookville's small convalescent home. But from the moment she saw the town, nestled in a valley by a sparkling lake, Dolores knew she was going to like it. But someone in Brookville did not like Dolores, enough to send her an ugly anonymous letter and follow it up with threatening phone calls.

When the brakes on her car were tampered with, the nurse knew she could no longer ignore her tormentor...but who could she trust? Mr. Allen, the home's administrator? Dervin Kelly, a hot-tempered young lawyer who had a way of getting under her skin? Her landlady, Jan Garner? Or could one of them be the enemy who wanted her dead...?

The Letter...

When Dolores turned on the overhead light, she noticed an envelope stuck under her door. She had not expected any mail so soon. It could be a note from Sharon, wishing her good luck. Or maybe Dan had written to make up...
But the letter wasn't from Dan, or from Sharon. The paper was lined, like a sheet from a school tablet, and the typed message struck Delores like a blow between the eyes:
This is a warning. You had better heed it. You cannot stay here. You should never have come to Brookville. Better leave before it is too late...
